A SUPERBLY RESTORED C17th. and C18th. BASTIDE, 15 minutes from Avignon in the heart of a privately enclosed estate of almost 3 hectares / 7.4 acres.  3 reception rooms including lounge of more than 60 m2, 2 suites, 3 en-suite bedrooms. Staff Studio. Guest House with lounge, living room, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. Caretakers Lodge. Swimming Pool. Outbuildings. There are exceptional views over the Ventoux and Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

HISTORY:  Since it's beginning, the grounds have consisted of two distinctive properties:

1. LE CLOS DE LA FONT DES MOINES, named The Tower, because the building contains the C12th. ruins of a chateau with tower. This was only discovered 15 years ago. This was originally the property of Jean d'Ancezune Campoix in 1538 - the Abbot of St. Ruf les Valences.
2. LE CHATEAU takes it's name from the latin Torcularium - it's name in Roman times, with walled grounds of  around 3 hectares / 7.4 acres. In 1659, the property belonged to Guillaume François de Tertulle - Seigneur of Saignon. He made numerous purhases; in particular, a prestigious Grange from Pierre Hugues, whose family were important future property owners in the C19th. and C20th.

In 1778 Diane-Gabrielle de Baroncelli-Javon, widow of Joseph Ignace de Tertulle Cardebat de Bot, left the majority of the property to her nephew Le Chevalier Paul-Antoine de Baroncelli de Javon (Commander of the Order of Malta). This succession was nullified in view of his religious standing, making it inappropriate to inherit such a large property. It passed to Seigneur Comte de Quinson who then handed it down to his son Le Marquis de Montlaur.

On 6th. October 1806, Gabriel-Joseph-Raymond de Villardi de Montlaur sold it, along with several properties, to his son Eugène-Paulin.

On 5th. May 1837 Eugène-Paulin-Raymond de Villardi, Marquis de Montlaur, bought neighbouring land and it was he who constructed the existing walls in 1838.

On 8th. October 1861 Anatole-Léopold-Auguste Villardy - Comte de Montlaur, who resided at Le Chateau de Diziers, sold the Château and the Tower to Henry-Louis-Victor d'Hugues.
