| A C12th. - C17th. CHATEAU, SITUATED IN A 85 HECTARE / 210 ACRE ESTATE overlooking several valleys with exceptional views over the Hautes-Vivarais. The Château was built in several stages from the C12th. to the C17th. on the site of a rectangular Keep dating from the times of Saint-Louis. Originally a military fortress, it was subsequently transformed in the C16th. and C17th. into its less austere, current state by the addition of Mullion windows. It is built in bronze sandstone, with chestnut wood floors. Roofing is of Roman tiles. It is situated in an 85 hectare / 210 acre estate on a hilltop overlooking several valleys with oustanding views of the Haut-Vivarais. From the turret, the Alps may even be seen. From the Middle Ages to the Revolution the Château was home to the seigneurs from whom it takes its name. It was subsequently a Seminary, before being returned to the aristocracy until WW2, when it became a shelter for the Maquis' resistance. The Château then passed to the current owner who has painstakingly restored it to its original condition. |

| STATE & OBSERVATIONS: This is a house in which one feels immediately at home. The surroundings are beautiful; the setting is peaceful and the views are outstanding. Great care has been given to the choice of materials used and the way they have been incorporated. As a result, there is a sense of timelessness pervading the entire estate. There is underfloor heating in the two Great Halls and some of the bedrooms. Elsewhere radiators provide the central heating. Water is supplied from several springs and collected in reservoirs with overflow into round stone basins. There is also the possibility of installing a pump to supply all floors of the Keep with water from the courtyard well. |
