Temple of Light is a beautifully designed modern construction, made principally of stone, oak wood, glass, slate and steel; set in 30 acres of wild flower meadows with a stream, providing complete privacy over the surrounding countryside. The land is divided by stone walls into fields which are suitable for grazing sheep, cattle or horses.
The house was painstakingly created by two musicians from a derelict former farmhouse. Local materials and craftsmen were used for much of the renovation and the new buildings, designed by UK Architects Roderick James. |

| The oak entrance door is set in one of the original stone walls and leads into a slate-floored lobby. Two granite lintels from the original building now serve as steps into the main living room with a larchwood floor. While the house has under-floor heating, the centrepiece of this area is a tiled oven especially designed for the house by Theo Schipp of Waldkirch, Germany. The free-floating steel staircase which leads up to the gallery was also designed especially for the house by Architects Akiboye-Conolly of Cork and fabrication by Stapleton Engineering of Ballyfoyle, Co. Kilkenny. The main bathroon and double walk-in shower lead off the gallery. An office, which could also be used as a bedroom, is connected by a secong steel staircase to the ground floor. There are an additional two bedrooms with a bathroom on the ground floor. |

| The large kitchen with its slate floor is fully equipped with a central work station, especially constructed for the house by Kingsriver Community in Stonyford, Co. Kilkenny. A corridor leads to a laundry, larder, storerooms and through an oak door into a large studio (50 sq. metres). This impressive room has a curved stone wall, high level clerestory windows, a vast vaulted ceiling and sliding glass doors onto a cedar wood terrace overlooking a large pond. The sophisticated geothermal heating system and 4,000 litre oil tank are housed in one of the former stone outhouses. Two additional modern steel structures are used for storing wood for the tiled oven, and as a workshop with solar panels to assist with heating water. |
